Winery tour in the Barolo, Barbera and Barbaresco area
Arrival and exclusive transfer from the airport to a luxury hotel in the Langhe area, in Piemonte. Guests are welcomed with a drink served on the rooftop terrace, with typical wines and snacks from Piemonte. For the tour we propose two alternative small accommodations in Villa that ensure optimal quality standards and familiar atmosphere. The first one, in a wolfing distance from Alba, is a nineteenth century residence, masterfully restored, with woods and hazelnut groves and magnificent views of the Alps and the rolling hills of Barolo. The restaurant boasts an excellent service prized of one Michelin star. The second is an ancient villa of the eighteenth century, situated on the hilltop of Monforte d'Alba, at the entrance of the historic center, maintaining a scenic location in the Langhe hills, inside a beautiful park.
In the afternoon, a short transfer through the vineyards will lead to Barolo, for a visit to WIMU, the Wine Museum, for an authentic sensory immersion. A pleasant "Drink of the King" in combination with a taste of chocolate will be the original welcome or farewell to WIMU.
For the evening, after a short visit to the historic pastry of Cherasco, home of “gianduiotti" and of the traditional “Kisses" (Baci), we propose a dinner in a one Michelin star restaurant, with a visit to the winery built in volcanic rock, the pride of Restaurant, which houses 60,000 bottles of 450 producers for a total of 1,800 labels from around the world: a wine list of the most complete in Italy. For the occasion, we propose a tasting menu consists of 6 courses, completely based on products of the Langhe, with pasta, ravioli, homemade bread exclusively.
After dinner, return to the Villa for overnight.
Departure to the small village of La Morra and arrival in a farm in which four generations are passionately dedicated to the work in the vineyards. Among the barrels of the cellar, you will learn with “mamma Giovanna” the secrets of the most typical recipes from Piemonte, tasting your favorite wines, savoring the smells and immersing yourself in the tradition of the winery.
The cooking class is the preparation of a 4-course menu, aided by the advice of the Lady of the house, using genuine products of the tradition which certainly will not miss the classic homemade pasta. Lunch will be tasted in the cellar, among the oak barrels where the wine is kept for aging.
In the afternoon, transfer to the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, declared in 2014, a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The visit to the Castle that between 1832 and 1849 was the home of Count Camillo Benso, author of the Unification of Italy, and which now houses the World Truffle Auction, is certainly an experience that takes you back in time, revealing stories, curiosities and traditions of this area which has made the tradition of wine culture. Upon request, the landlord, Camillo Benso di Cavour, will lead you to discover the manor, with a guided tour reminiscent full of charm and appeal.
For the evening, after visiting the Enoteca and the Castle Museum, you can enjoy a dinner of local products in the restaurant of the Castle, with a tasting menu of chef Marco Lantieri who, using only local ingredients according to the rhythm natural seasons, creates unique and artistic dishes, expertly paired by his wife and Sommelier Amy (menu with 4 courses and 4 glasses of wine tasting included). If we have time enough, we propose an aperitif or (subject to actual availability of the cellar) at the cellar of Alba, famous for her "berry", as an observatory on the panorama of the Langhe, at sunset time, or at another excellent wine cellar adjacent that will give the suggestion to immerse yourself in the vineyards to 360 °.
In the evening, return to the hotel for overnight.
From the home of Barolo, a short transfer will lead to Asti, for a stop at the most famous Pasticceria and a short guided tour in the medieval town between the Langhe and Monferrato, rich of art and culture, known in the world for its sparkling wine. Alternatively, you can opt for a visit to Castigliole d'Asti, a town famous for its charming hilltop castle.
We propose a convivial lunch at a farm producer of wines, meats and cheeses, where guests can stroll through the vineyards, to assist to the work in the cellar, visit the herds of goats and cattle and participate in the processing stages of the cheese and yoghurt .
The second Saturday of the month, in Casale Monferrato guests will attend the antique market that takes place once a month, discovering the traditions and artistic and architectural beauties of this village. In the Castle can visit the Enoteca Regionale del Monferrato, for a tasting tour of wines, spirits and gourmet products from Piemonte.
Finally, a short transfer will bring in Canelli, the land of Spumante and Moscato d'Asti. In Canelli will be possible to realize a real underground tour, going from winery to winery (with important names such as Gancia, Contratto e Bosca), which inevitably leads to the Enoteca Regional. It thus refers to the true "underground cathedrals", recognized as UNESCO heritage, which extend beneath the city, carved into the hills of tufa, creating the masterpieces of engineering and architecture loads of suggestion. The final tasting tour is the perfect end to a day full of discoveries and flavors.
When finished, return to Alba to have dinner at the excellent restaurant of the Villa or in a lovely farm adjacent in a striking position that offers cuisine and local wines.
